about

For fans of Elvin King, Blackmore's Night, Faun, Loreena McKennitt, Cellar Darling

What joy it was to work with Simon and Marco. I am proud that we could bring our love of music together on Another trip to Sky. Haunting and inspiring lyrics surrounded by mystical, magical, and thoughtful arrangements. MaterDea has presented a wonderful journey. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Mater Dea was born when two musicians, Simon Papa and Marco Strega, engaged in a remarkable collaboration. Coming from very different musical traditions, they nevertheless share a common passion for the dreamy, haunting and rarified ambience of Celtic music. In their first album “Below the Mists above the brambles”, MaterDea blends the magic atmospheres of ancient music with very powerful rock beats. In their songs the flavour of natural elementals, marvellous creatures and fantastic stories carry the listener to a surreal dimension in which he gets in contact with the ancient cult of the Great Mother. Special guest of this album is the accordionist John Whelan, featuring in the beautiful ballad "Another trip to Skye" here reinterpreted with original lyrics written by MaterDea.
